These posts are largely about the McCarrolls in New Zealand, but the family come from Northern Ireland, so I really do need to start with their Irish origin story as told to my Aunt Adeline. Having got a taste for it with Heather’s family, I’d quite like to dive back into the McCarrolls’ history a bit more. One day!
**The Days of the Kauri Bushman is a whole production in itself — transcripts of a series of vivid radio talks by Hugh McCarroll, who worked in the bush himself. I wish I had the audio.

I probably haven’t been consistent, but by and large I’ve called the women by their “maiden” names — e.g. Violet Lamont, not Violet McCarroll.
My mum Deirdre Drysdale (nee McCarroll) remembers going to Aunti Addies 80th Birthday
She was daughter of Eric McCarroll who was the son of Joseph William McCarroll
Hi Bronwyn, I’m so sorry for the delay in responding to you. I can see Eric in the family tree I’ve created but sad to say I never tracked his children. The McCarrolls of Aunt Addie’s generation were remarkable and my mother was very proud of them, and loved Addie dearly. We were living in the Solomon Islands when she died. Thank you for your interest, and do please share the site if anyone else might be interested, or if you have anything you could add to the story. Take care, Ian
